What is day care surgery?

Day Care surgery is admitting the patient in the morning, laparoscopic hysterectomy (uterus removal) or myomectomy (fibroid removal) being performed, and the patient recovers comfortably enough to be discharged within 24 hours. It has now been refined and improvised even further to be able to allow the patient to be discharged on the same day in the evening after surgery.

What are the advantages of day care surgery?

The concept of day care is not about sending the patient home. It’s to make sure that the patient is recovered completely and is painfree by the same evening of the surgery. She should be able to walk around, eat normal food, and take care of her own needs herself, without being dependent completely.

In addition, shorter hospital stay enables the patient to be back in the comfortable home surroundings early. Also, it allows the rest of the family to get back to the routine quickly.

Does the patient want to go home on the same day after surgery?

As mentioned earlier, Day Care hysterectomy or myomectomy, is not only about sending the patient home on the same day after surgery. It’s the comfortable, painfree recovery, which enables the option, that the patient, if she wishes, can go home in the evening. Day Care hysterectomy and myomectomy is being done now for more than 12 years. The concept is highly acceptable and appreciated. In fact, it started 12 years back, when one of the patients operated for a laparoscopic hysterectomy mentioned her desire to go home and sleep as she was comfortable enough, and she was keen to go home as her daughters were otherwise alone at home. When the second and then the third patient, in a few days, expressed the similar desire for their personal reasons, it motivated the refining the surgical technique even further to make recovery more comfortable for every patient.

The patient always has the option of staying longer in the hospital if she wishes.

What surgeries can be done as day care?

In gynecology practice it is focused on all 3D laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures. Newer development is the addition of hysterectomy (uterus removal) and myomectomy (fibroid removal). Though it also includes all other gynecological procedures for 3D laparoscopic surgery like tubal block removal, recanalization and ovarian cyst removal.

What size fibroids can be removed by 3D laparoscopic surgery?

It is individualized. The size or the number of the fibroids to be removed depends on multiple patient factors. 3D laparoscopy has many advantages that make the surgery easy. Aquadissection has refined the technique for fibroid removal which significantly reduces the blood loss in the myomectomy and makes fibroid removal almost a bloodless surgery and very convenient.

What is the advantage of Robotic surgery?

Robotic surgery for uterus removal is the latest advancement in surgical field. The surgeon sits on the console to operate, surgery is done by controlling the robotic arms. The robotic instruments provide more precise & better ease in complex movements during the surgery. It provides a more delicate surgical output for the patient. If affordability is not an issue, then this is the best technology today. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
